Custom Visuals in Power BI – Bullet Chart

In today’s blog I will explain about Custom Visuals in Power BI.

As we know we have bunch of built in visualization in Power BI under visualization pan such as bar chart, column chart, waterfall chart, tree map and many other visualizations. But according to our requirements, we need new visualizations. Power BI give us platform to use custom visuals. we can create our own custom visualizations and share with others in organization and outside world.

In Power BI we have lots of Custom visuals and we can import custom visual from market place.

we have a public custom visual website form Microsoft:

https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps?product=power-bi-visuals&page=1&src=office

Today I will explain how to use Custom visuals.

1st of all we need to click ellipsis after visualization from same pan:

Click on Import Custom Visual:

Click on Import from marketplace.

It will open Power BI Visuals .

From here we can select any custom visual and these are for free. Today I am taking Bullet chart to explain.

Click on Add button and Bullet chart visualization will be added in visualization pan in Power BI desktop

Click on Bullet chart:

Select and drag Target Profit under Target field value , Profit under Value field and Category under category value field:

Click on Format option:

Enter values under  Satisfactory %,Minimum% , Maximum % fields:

We can change color for chart :

As we have used two terms for Category field and have hierarchy

Select Expand next level :

Select Drill Up and this time select Show next level drill:

From this bullet chart and their different color’s we can easily identify the Profit value (from black bullet) for each category/sub category and what profit value is good/satisfactory/very good for respective category/sub category on the basis of colors .
