Now we are going to experience data with different colours. It will be easy and interesting to add colours to our different fields. We will be working with the below sample data

Load a sample file in Power BI:

Select Unit & Region and click on bar chart:

Check for Axis field, Region is present there it is for horizontal axis.

Select ‘Item’ field and drag to the Axis with ‘Region’:

click on Expand next level:

It will display result with Region and Item. Results are in sorting order. We can change this order:

Now we want to add some colour so that we can see data not only by text but also from colours.

Select Unit field and drag it to the Color saturation:

We can see more prominent colour for high units and light colour for less units.

Remove unit from color saturation and drag and drop Region fields under Legend:

So now we can identify Region field by different colours.

We can change these colours. Go to Format (next to Fields)

Click on format

Select any colour to change existing colours:

It was about adding records on axis and giving colours to data.

Let we explore more option with adding colour in different type of Visualizations:

From Sentiment colors we can change colors for increase, decrease and total data

Change data colors, select any colour from drop down :

Selct filter for visual level filters:

Select year 2015 check box:

It displays values for 2015 year only

Advance filtering:

Select filter for month and Quarter and year:

Select value as ‘less than ‘ 2016

It displays results for 2015 year only not for 2016 and 2017.

Let explore filtering on more than one filed:

Select a new bar chart with Item, Region and unit fields:

Expand next level:

Select Filters field and use drop down for Item and Region:

Select copy and Pencil from the filter:

On selecting item Region filter is automatically changed and only East region is there.

Now if I select one more item from Item filter:

On selecting bag from Item filter, new region is also present for Region filter.

We can filter data on the basis of units too:

here we can give any number and select values from drop down

select value ‘is greater than’ from drop down and give value as 20 in text field:

It is showing results for unit 30 and 40.

It was all about adding colour and filter on different fields.
