How to Enable Power Pivot and Power View in Different Versions of Microsoft Excel


First of all, you should have the right version of Excel. There are many Excel Version where Power Pivot is not available, So No matter what you do, you will not be able to Enable Power Pivot There.

For e.g. Power Pivot is currently NOT available in office Version of Mac or Android or Office for Home & Student / Business 2013-2016 etc.  So, you cannot enable Power Pivot in these Excel Version. Please do not waste your effort trying to find out a You Tube video to do so. So first of all, check what version of Excel are you using.

Where to Check the Excel Version – Open Excel, Go To File → Account

  • If you are using Microsoft Excel 2010, then you have free download add In available for Power Pivot. The Power Pivot add-in for Excel 2010 did not ship with Office, but is available as a free download :   – https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43348

  • This free download works only with Excel 2010, and not with newer versions of Excel.

How To Enable Power Pivot If its already present as an Add-In

  • To enable the Power Pivot or Power Query  plug-ins to access the tools (File > Options > Add-Ins > Manage: COM Add-Ins)

Click on the Power Pivot , Power View & Power Map add ins available based on your version of Excel


Next How To Enable Power View

  • Power View Must be available as an add in based on your Version of Excel

  • Even after its available in order to see the Power View Button on your Excel, Follow the Steps below.


  1. Go to File → Options → Customized Ribbon



2. Inside Customized Ribbon → Choose Commands from 1. All Commands, 2. Power View

  1. On the Right hand side , Click on 1 + button next to “Insert” , then click on 2 – “New Group” and then 3 – Rename it to 4-“PowerView” and then 5- click “OK”


  1. Then Select Power View on the Left Hand Side and move it to right hand side below the new Group We Created and click ok


5.After this Power View is Enabled and you can see it inside your “Insert” Ribbon in Excel
